SEOGoogle Business Profile

Google My Business management that wins the map pack.

A Google Business Profile is one of the highest-intent listings you own, and most sit half-finished and undefended. We run yours as an ongoing asset: optimised, consistent, reviewed and kept honest against the competitors and edits that quietly erode it.

The short answer

Google My Business management is the ongoing work of optimising and maintaining your Google Business Profile so it competes in the local map pack and Google Maps. It covers accurate categories and attributes, consistent name, address and phone data across the web, review generation and responses, Posts and photos, and defence against unwanted edits and suspensions. Done properly it turns a static listing into a steady source of calls, direction requests and enquiries from buyers already close to acting.

01In depth

Google Business Profile, in full.

Your Google Business Profile, still widely called Google My Business, is often the first thing a nearby buyer sees and the listing they act on fastest. A tap to call, a request for directions, a look at your reviews and hours; these are decisions made in seconds by people already close to buying. That makes the profile one of the highest-intent assets you own, and yet it is usually the most neglected. Categories left on the default, half the attributes blank, a description written once and forgotten, reviews unanswered for months. The listing exists, but it is not working.

Managing it well is a genuinely different discipline from classic SEO. Ranking in the local pack is driven by relevance, distance and prominence, and each of those is influenced by things your website cannot touch: your chosen categories, the consistency of your name, address and phone across the web, the volume and recency of your reviews, and the credibility signals Google reads from photos, Posts and Q&A. It is also a live surface. Anyone can suggest an edit to your hours or address, competitors can flag your listing, and Google can suspend a profile over a change you did not make. A profile is not something you set up once; it is something that has to be run.

We manage Google Business Profiles as an ongoing account, not a one-off tidy-up. That means getting the foundations genuinely right, categories, services, attributes and a description that reflects how you actually trade, then working the levers that move month to month: reviews, Posts, photos, Q&A and the consistency of your data everywhere Google checks it. Where you have more than one location or a service-area business, we handle each properly rather than cloning one template across a map.

This is senior work by design. The four of us have spent roughly forty years between us on local and organic search, and there are no juniors on your account. Category strategy, suspension recovery and reading why one competitor outranks you in the pack are judgement calls, not a checklist, and they are exactly the calls we take on for the businesses other agencies found awkward.

02What it covers

Google Business Profile, broken down.

Profile optimisation and categories

We set the primary category that most closely matches your core business, add the secondary categories that genuinely apply, and complete the services, attributes and description that give Google reasons to show you. Category choice is one of the largest levers in the local pack, and the wrong primary quietly caps everything downstream.

Reviews: generation and response

A steady flow of recent, genuine reviews and a reply to every one, positive or not. We build a repeatable request process that fits how you actually work, never incentivised or fake reviews, because those breach Google's policies and put the whole profile at risk.

NAP consistency and citations

Your name, address and phone kept identical across the profile, your website and the directories and data aggregators Google cross-checks. Contradictory listings are a common, invisible drag on local ranking, and cleaning them up is often the fastest available win.

Explore →

Posts, photos and Q&A

Regular Posts, current and geotagged photography, and a seeded, monitored Q&A section keep the profile active and answer the questions buyers ask before they call. An active profile reads as a credible one to both people and Google.

Multi-location and service-area profiles

Whether that is several branches or a service-area business with no shopfront, each location handled as a real profile with correct service areas and consistent data, rather than one listing stretched across a map it cannot credibly serve.

Defence, edits and suspension recovery

We monitor for suggested edits, competitor spam flags and policy changes, correct bad edits quickly, and handle reinstatement if a profile is suspended. A profile you do not watch is one competitors and Google can change without telling you.

03How we run it

The way we run Google Business Profile.

01

Audit and verify

We review the current profile against your competitors in the pack, confirm ownership and verification, and find the gaps: weak categories, missing attributes, inconsistent NAP, thin reviews or edits that have slipped through. You get a clear picture of where you stand before anything changes.

02

Fix the foundations

Categories, services, attributes, description, hours, photos and contact data corrected and completed, and any conflicting citations across the web reconciled so nothing contradicts the profile.

03

Stand up the review engine

We put a compliant, repeatable review-request process in place that suits your workflow, and take on responding to reviews so replies are prompt, consistent and on-brand.

04

Run the monthly cadence

Posts, fresh photos, Q&A upkeep, review replies and citation checks handled on a regular rhythm, so the profile stays active rather than sliding back to neglected.

05

Monitor and defend

Ongoing watch for suggested edits, competitor spam, category drift and suspension risk, with quick correction and reinstatement handling when something goes wrong.

06

Report against what matters

Calls, direction requests, website clicks and map-pack visibility tracked over time, alongside the organic local pages, so you can see the enquiries the profile is actually driving.

04Our approach

How we approach Google Business Profile.

Profile built to rank, not just to exist

Primary and secondary categories, services, attributes and a genuine business description chosen for relevance, because categories are one of the strongest levers you have in the local pack.

Reviews as a system, not an afterthought

A repeatable way to earn recent, relevant reviews and reply to every one, since review volume, velocity and content all feed local ranking and the click that follows.

Consistency Google can cross-check

Name, address and phone kept identical across your profile, your site and the citations Google verifies against, so nothing contradicts and dilutes your signals.

Defended and monitored

We watch for suggested edits, competitor spam, category changes and suspension risk, and act before a silent change costs you visibility you had already earned.

06Why us

Who does the work, and how we run it

Google Business Profile management is easy to do badly and quietly costly when it goes wrong, from a mis-set category that caps your reach to a suspension that pulls you off the map overnight. We run it as senior, hands-on work, grounded in Google's own guidelines rather than tactics that risk the listing, and measured against the enquiries it produces rather than vanity counts.

Senior practitioners only

The four of us, with roughly forty years between us across local and organic search, do the work directly. Your account is never handed to a junior running a template.

Inside Google's guidelines

We work to Google Business Profile policies, never fake or incentivised reviews, keyword-stuffed names or fake locations, because those shortcuts get profiles filtered or suspended and are not worth the risk to an asset this valuable.

Measured on enquiries

Calls, direction requests and clicks are the point, so that is what we report, alongside map-pack visibility and your wider local pages. No guarantees on rankings, which nobody can honestly make, just steady, accountable work.

07Common questions

Google Business Profile: common questions.

Is Google My Business the same as Google Business Profile?

Yes. Google renamed Google My Business to Google Business Profile, and dropped the standalone app, but the free listing that appears in the local pack and Google Maps is the same thing. People still search for both names, so we use them interchangeably.

What does Google My Business management actually include?

Optimising the profile itself, categories, services, attributes and description, then the ongoing work: earning and replying to reviews, publishing Posts and photos, keeping your name, address and phone consistent across the web, and monitoring for edits or suspension. It is management of a live asset, not a one-off setup.

How long until we see results in the map pack?

Foundational fixes such as categories and attributes can influence visibility within weeks, while reviews, consistency and prominence build over months. It depends on your starting point and how competitive your area and category are. We will be honest about what is realistic before we start, and we never guarantee a position.

Do we need a physical address to rank locally?

For the map pack, a verifiable location or a defined service area is required, and Google needs to confirm it. If you serve customers at their premises rather than yours, a service-area profile is the right setup, and we configure it correctly so you compete without breaching the rules.

Can you get more reviews for our profile?

We put a repeatable, compliant request process in place so genuine customers find it easy to leave a review, and we respond to every one. We do not buy, incentivise or fake reviews. Those breach Google's policies and can get the whole profile suspended, which is a poor trade for a short-term bump.

Our profile was suspended. Can you help?

Yes. We review the likely cause, whether that is a policy issue, a suspicious edit or a verification problem, correct what triggered it and handle the reinstatement request. Recovery is never guaranteed by Google, but a considered, policy-aligned appeal gives the best chance of getting the listing back.

Do you manage multiple locations?

Yes, whether that is several branches or a service-area business covering a region. Each location is handled as a real profile with correct data and service areas, not one listing stretched across a map, because that is what actually ranks and stays ranked.

How does this fit with the rest of our local SEO?

The profile is one pillar of local visibility. It works best alongside genuinely relevant local pages on your site, consistent citations and local coverage. We run Google Business Profile management as part of that wider local SEO picture rather than in isolation.
