LLM SEO: get your business named by the models.

LLM SEO is the work of making your business the source a large language model reads, trusts and names. We optimise for how ChatGPT, Claude, Gemini and Perplexity actually source their answers, not for a trick that stops working next month.

The short answer

LLM SEO is the practice of optimising a website and its wider footprint so large language models can read it, understand who you are, and cite you when they answer buying questions. It spans two paths: presence in the data models learn from, and clarity in the live retrieval layer they search at answer time. We work both, consolidate your entity, and measure whether you are named across a set of your real questions.

01In depth

LLM SEO, in full.

LLM SEO is a confusing label because it borrows a word, SEO, from a discipline built for a very different machine. Classic SEO optimises for a search engine that returns a ranked list of links. LLM SEO optimises for a large language model that reads sources and writes a single answer, then decides whether to name you in it. The overlap is real, clean crawlable pages help both, but the target is different: you are no longer competing for position three, you are competing to be the sentence the model generates.

There is a further wrinkle that separates LLM SEO from ordinary search work. A model draws on two distinct places. The first is the data it was trained on, a frozen snapshot where your presence, or absence, was baked in months ago. The second is the live retrieval layer, the web search a model runs at answer time for anything current or specific. You cannot rewrite the training snapshot, but you can shape what it learns next time, and you have direct influence over what it retrieves today. Good LLM SEO works both, and is honest about which lever is moving.

This is where we are careful with our language. Nobody can guarantee a citation in ChatGPT or Claude, and any agency that promises one is selling you certainty it does not have. What we can do is make your business the most legible, best corroborated, most directly useful option in your market, then measure whether the models actually name you against a fixed set of your buying questions. That measurement is the honest heart of the work: it tells you whether you are winning, losing, or invisible, and it improves over time as the foundations compound.

We are four senior practitioners with around forty years between us and no juniors on the work. LLM SEO sits inside our wider AEO practice, and it shares foundations with technical SEO, entity work and digital PR. We treat it as a craft, not a growth hack, because the models keep changing and the only durable strategy is to genuinely be the clearest and most trustworthy answer.

02What it covers

LLM SEO, broken down.

03How we run it

The way we run LLM SEO.

01

Baseline your visibility

We build a fixed set of your real buying questions and test them across ChatGPT, Claude, Gemini, Perplexity and Google's AI surfaces, recording whether you are named, a competitor is, or nobody is. That baseline is what everything is measured against.

02

Audit legibility and entity

We crawl your site the way a machine reads it, checking retrieval readiness, structured data and rendering, and we audit how consistently your identity appears across the sources models learn from.

03

Prioritise by leverage

We rank the fixes by how much each is likely to move citation, so the earliest work is the work that changes answers, not a generic checklist.

04

Fix foundations and content

We resolve the technical blockers, consolidate the entity, and rewrite priority pages to be answer-first and genuinely useful across your question set.

05

Earn corroboration

We run targeted digital PR and citation work to build the third-party confirmation that makes a model comfortable naming you.

06

Re-test and report

We re-run the question set on a regular cadence and report the movement plainly, so you can see whether visibility is improving and where the next gains sit.

04Our approach

How we approach LLM SEO.

Optimise for retrieval, not just ranking

Most model answers now lean on a live search layer. We make your key pages fast, cleanly structured and free of the rendering issues that stop a machine reading them, so you are eligible to be retrieved and quoted.

Consolidate the entity a model learns

Models build a picture of who you are from your site, Companies House, Wikidata, review platforms and coverage. We make that picture consistent, so the model is confident enough to name you rather than hedge.

Structure answers to be quotable

An LLM lifts the passage that answers the question best. We write and format your pages so the answer is explicit, near the top and easy to extract, across the full set of questions your buyers ask.

Earn the corroboration that builds trust

Models trust what credible third parties confirm. We build the digital PR and citations that make you a source a model is comfortable repeating, never bought placement.

06Why us

Who does the work, and how we keep it honest

LLM SEO attracts a lot of confident nonsense because the models are new and hard to observe. We counter that with senior hands, a repeatable method, and measurement you can check. There are no juniors learning on your account, and no promises we cannot keep.

Senior practitioners only

Four of us, around forty years between us. The person auditing your entity and rewriting your pages is the person you speak to, not a handover to a junior team.

A method, not a guess

Baseline, audit, prioritise by leverage, fix, corroborate, re-test. The same disciplined loop we run for classic SEO, pointed at how models source answers.

Honest measurement

We track citation against a fixed set of your questions and report it plainly. We never guarantee a placement, and we tell you when a lever is not moving.

07Common questions

LLM SEO: common questions.

What is LLM SEO?

LLM SEO is the practice of optimising your website and wider footprint so large language models can read it, understand who you are, and cite you when they answer questions. It targets the models behind ChatGPT, Claude, Gemini and Perplexity, and works both the data they learn from and the live search they run at answer time.

Is LLM SEO different from normal SEO?

They share foundations, clean, crawlable, authoritative pages help both, but the target differs. Classic SEO competes for a ranked link. LLM SEO competes to be the sentence a model writes, so structuring content to be directly quotable and consolidating your entity matter more than usual.

Is LLM SEO the same as AEO or GEO?

They overlap heavily. AEO, answer-engine optimisation, is the umbrella. GEO, generative engine optimisation, and LLM SEO are near-synonyms people reach for depending on whether they picture the target as an engine or a model. We treat them as one connected craft and use whichever term a client already uses.

Can you guarantee we get cited in ChatGPT or Claude?

No, and anyone who guarantees it is not being straight with you. Citation is earned through clarity, authority and corroboration. We make you the most citable option in your market and measure whether the models actually name you against your own question set.

How do you measure LLM SEO?

We build a fixed set of your real buying questions, test them across the major models, and record whether you are named, a competitor is, or nobody is. We re-run that set on a regular cadence and report the movement, so progress is visible rather than asserted.

Do our Google rankings help with LLM SEO?

Indirectly, yes. Strong classic SEO usually means the crawlable, well-structured, authoritative content that a model's retrieval layer favours. But models source differently from Google, so we also work entity consolidation and per-model nuance that ranking alone will not cover.

How long does LLM SEO take to work?

Retrieval and structural gains can show within weeks, because they change what a model can read today. Authority and corroboration build over a quarter or two. Training-data presence is the slowest lever, since it depends on future model updates. We are clear about which is moving.

How much does LLM SEO cost?

Our work starts from £1,500 a month, with senior practitioners on the account and no juniors. The right level depends on the size of your question set and how much technical and corroboration work the baseline reveals. We scope it honestly after the audit.
